Pet Vaccinations in Narre Warren

Vaccination Includes a Health Check

Vaccination isn’t just about giving your pet an injection. It is also an opportunity for your veterinarian to check their overall health.

Regular health checks allow us to monitor your pet over time and identify changes that may need further investigation.

Protect Your Pet Against Preventable Disease

Vaccination is an important part of your pet’s preventative healthcare. It helps protect dogs, cats and rabbits from serious infectious diseases and can reduce the risk of illness within the wider pet population.

At The Narre Warren Vet, our veterinarians recommend vaccination protocols based on your pet’s age, lifestyle, vaccination history and individual risk factors.

A vaccination appointment also includes a health check, giving your veterinarian an opportunity to assess your pet’s general health and discuss any concerns with you.

We offer a range of canine vaccinations to help protect dogs against important infectious diseases.

C5 Vaccination

Our canine vaccination protocol provides protection against the core canine diseases as well as canine infectious respiratory disease (canine cough).

The C5 components provide protection against:

  • Canine distemper virus
  • Canine adenovirus
  • Canine parvovirus
  • Canine parainfluenza virus
  • Bordetella bronchiseptica

Leptospirosis

We also offer leptospirosis vaccination, subject to availability.

Leptospirosis is a bacterial disease that can affect dogs and can also pose a risk to people. Your veterinarian can discuss whether vaccination is appropriate based on your dog’s lifestyle and potential exposure.

Rabies

We also offer rabies vaccination for international travel and export purposes. If you’re planning to travel overseas with your dog or cat, speak with our veterinary team well in advance so we can discuss the vaccination and other requirements that may apply. Learn more about rabies vaccinations.

Puppies and Kittens require a series of vaccinations because antibodies received from their mother can interfere with the development of their own immune response.

Your veterinarian will recommend a vaccination schedule based on your puppy or kitten’s age, vaccination history and risk of exposure.

We’ll also discuss when your puppy can safely begin socialising with other dogs and participating in activities such as puppy school.

Learn about Puppy School

We offer annual F3 vaccinations for cats, providing protection against three important feline diseases:

  • Feline panleukopenia virus
  • Feline herpesvirus
  • Feline calicivirus

These diseases can cause significant illness in cats, and vaccination is an important part of preventative healthcare.

Your cat’s vaccination needs can vary depending on their age, lifestyle, health and exposure to other cats. Our vets will recommend the most appropriate vaccination protocol for your cat.

FIV Vaccination

We also offer vaccination against Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV).

FIV is a virus that can compromise a cat’s immune system. It is primarily spread through bite wounds, so cats that go outdoors or may encounter unfamiliar cats can have a greater risk of exposure.

FIV vaccination involves an initial course of vaccinations followed by ongoing boosters as recommended by your veterinarian. Because FIV vaccination is not required for every cat, we’ll discuss your cat’s lifestyle and individual risk before recommending it.

Rabbits are susceptible to Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease Virus (RHDV), also known as rabbit calicivirus. The disease can cause sudden and often fatal illness.

At The Narre Warren Vet, we offer Filavac VHD K C+V for rabbits.

Filavac VHD K C+V

Filavac is an inactivated vaccine that provides protection against both:

  • RHDV1: classical Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease Virus
  • RHDV2: a newer strain that is widespread in Australia

RHDV can spread through direct contact with infected rabbits and their excretions, as well as indirectly through contaminated clothing, equipment and insects. Vaccination is therefore important even for rabbits that live indoors.

Vaccinations and Our Healthcare Plan

Some of the vaccinations and preventative services we provide are included in our Pet Healthcare Plan, which is designed to make routine preventative care easier to manage.
