Just like humans, pets can struggle with weight gain — and even a small amount of excess weight can significantly impact their health.
This March, Berwick Vet Hospital & Narre Warren Vet are launching our COMPLIMENTARY 12-Week Healthy Weight Program — complete with a fun ‘Weigh to Wellness” Competition to celebrate our incredible patients’ transformations!
Why Does Pet Weight Matter?
Studies show that overweight pets can have:
- Shortened lifespans
- Increased arthritis pain
- Higher risk of diabetes
- Reduced mobility
- Breathing difficulties
Many owners don’t realise their pet is overweight because weight gain happens gradually.
That’s where Body Condition Scoring (BCS) comes in — a 1–9 scale that helps assess fat coverage and muscle condition. The number on the scales isn’t the only thing that matters.
Why Regular Diets Don’t Work for Weight Loss
Reducing portions of regular food can:
- Leave pets constantly hungry
- Reduce essential nutrients
- Lead to muscle loss instead of fat loss
Our program uses Royal Canin Satiety, a veterinary-exclusive diet designed to:
- Increase fullness
- Maintain muscle mass
- Support safe, steady fat loss
